This year we have welcomed 23 new Youth Advocates, 13 being female and 10 male, from differing nations including: Qatar, Afghanistan, Syria, Palestine, Sudan, America, Kuwait, Egypt, Belgium and Pakistan.

Meet the 2022 cohort of Youth Advocates

Amr El Telbany
Nationality : Egyptian
Age : 18 Years old

Amr El Telbany is a student at the University of Aberdeen in Doha, and studies Business Management. Amr was called “The face of Egyptian team Al Ahly’s fans in Qatar when they came to play at the FIFA Club World Cup 2020.

Volunteering for Amr is important. He volunteered in different events and activities, but the most memorable experience for him was during “Run the World Festival”. He learned about event management and event protocol, met with many youth from across the world and had lots of fun. Since then, Amr has never missed an opportunity to volunteer!

Amr is deeply passionate about football and would like to use this passion in achieving and inspiring social progress. He applied to the Youth Advocates Programme to enhance his skills and contribute to the betterment of his community.

Anas Aldous
Nationality : Palestinian
Age : 19 Years old

Anas is a basketball player in Al Khor team, Qatar. He studies health science at college of North Atlantic in Qatar. Anas is a strong advocate for teamwork and hard work. As a working student who likes providing help and assistance, he believes that teamwork is a beneficial tool to develop and improve societies and communities. Anas is also an active person who likes to participate in many events and likes to interact with others regardless of their age and gender.

Anas has an interest in sports in general, and enjoys working with team mates to achieve their combined goals.

By becoming a youth advocate, he aims to build his knowledge of how football and sport can be used as a medium to help communities. He is also excited to learn more about leadership and advocacy and hoping to experience a remarkable journey with Generation Amazing.

Al Mulayl Al Ani
Nationality : American
Age : 17 Years old

Al Mulayl Al Ani is grade 11 student at Qatar Academy Doha. Al Mulayl has a passion for sports, in particular football. He plays football professionally, but he would also like to further help and develop communities around through sports.

Al Mulayl has participated in various community development activities such as Generation Amazing Ability Friendly Program. After attending over 15 sessions, he has become passionate about helping communities of need, as well as of disability.

He would like to become a Youth Advocate, as he would like to further involve himself in developing the community through something many youth advocates solve and live by, which is sports. Al Mulayl aims to contribute towards the program, by utilising his sportsmanship to develop and lead workshops alongside the Generation Amazing coaches.

Yassin Abdeljawad
Nationality : Egyptian
Age : 18 Years old

Yassin Abdeljawad is a student at Qatar Academy Sidra in Qatar. He enjoys sports, especially football, and enjoys participating in any activity that has to do with sports of any kind.

He would like to become a Generation Amazing Youth Advocate for three reasons. First, because he would like to address issues that his society faces, through football; second this will count as a graduation project for him in his final year at school, and finally because it sounds fun!

Through his journey as an advocate, Yassin aims to leave a positive mark on his community by using football as a tool to tackle diabetes and heart problems.

Zeina Mahmoud
Nationality : Qatari
Age : 18 Years old

Zeina Mahmoud is a senior at Qatar Academy Doha. She sees herself as an active person. She was the captain of her school football team for two years and also played for the basketball team. Zeina has participated in different badminton tournaments at her school. Before the pandemic, she was in the NESAC (Near East Schools Activities Conference) speech and debate team in which her school took the 3rd place in the competition held in Kuwait.

Sports have a big impact on Zeina as a person. When the COVID19 pandemic hit, she was really affected as she couldn’t attend sports practices, nor go to the gym or train outdoors. Sport has taught Zeina how to collaborate with others, be a team member and have good sportsmanship.

Zeina wants to become a Youth Advocate because she believes that she can contribute her own experiences to the programme. She wants to apply her leadership, teambuilding and critical skills during her journey as an advocate to address gender equality and issues that are faced by female athletes.

Fawzi Galtesh
Nationality : Syrian
Age : 24 Years old

Fawzi Galtesh is currently living in Zaatari Refugee Camp in Jordan. He is outgoing person who loves horse riding and passionate about football.

Fawzi has always dreamt of becoming a professional soccer player. In 2017, Fawzi was selected to be part of a football team that Aspire Academy selected to participate in a youth football tournament. At the same time, his journey was screened to become the ‘’Captains of Zaatari” documentary. The film follows the thrilling experience of Fawzi and his friend Mahmoud who are dreaming of becoming professional football players.

In November 2021, Captains of Zaatari won Hilal Best Feature Film Award during Ajyal Film Festival. After the announcement of the award Fawzi was selected as Youth Advocate to present his story to inspire other young people in similar situations.

Mahmod Dagher
Nationality : Syrian
Age : 22 Years old

Mahmoud Dager is currently living in al Zaatari camp, he studied until grade 11 and then left school because of the low quality of education.

Mahmoud started volunteering within the camp to teach kids how to play football and other sport activities. He loves football because it is the only thing that makes him feel that he is outside of the camp. One of his dreams is to become a professional football player and to help everyone who has a dream that are living in the camp.

Besides Fawzi, Mahmoud is also the main character of Captains of Zaatari documentary which documents the journey of two wide-eyed teenagers who are now adults and role models to hundreds of thousands of young people who live in and around refugee camps.

During Ajyal Film Festival, Mahmoud was selected as a Youth Advocate alongside his friend Fawzi. He believes he has a responsibility towards refugees, especially youth who look up to him and Fawzi as role models.

Mohammed al Qassabi
Nationality : Qatari
Age : 22 Years old

Mohammed Al Qassabi is an information System Senior at Carnegie Mellon University Qatar and the head of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence department at Qatar Scientific Club.

Mohammed is focused and determined in his approach to his work and engages in his football career with the same passion. He has been the captain of Al-Arabi team U19 and won several medals. Mohammed has been working on a project that combines his love and knowledge of both programming and football. He programmed OPAS which is an innovative system that helps referees in detecting offside players during football matches, analyse players performances, and prevent injuries from happening.

Recently, Mohammed won the 3rd place at the ‘Arab inventor in Stars of science 13’ and the 5th place inventor in the world at the CIF (Challenge and Innovation Forum) 2021.

Mohammed participated at the Generation Amazing Festival 2021 and was selected as a Youth Advocate due to his high commitment and contribution to the festival programme.

Badr al Zaharna
Nationality : Palestinian
Age : 23 Years old

Bader Alzaharna is an English language graduate from Al-Azhar University of Gaza, Palestine. He is also an awardee of the Education Above All’s Al Fakhoora Scholarship Programme.

In Gaza, he is a civic leader for multiple community-service initiatives heavily focused on women and girls’ empowerment and youth capacity-building activities. Bader is a published writer for two stories and is currently writing a short-stories book. He aspires to pursue his Master’s degree in creative arts and storytelling.

Since he was a child, he has joined three football teams in Palestine and he has always been excited about sports. His belief is that sports can be a vehicle for positive change in communities. By joining the Youth Advocates Programme, Bader hopes to establish a global dialogue platform that contributes to building a mutual vision and understanding between youth worldwide.

Shahad Alkhateeb
Nationality : Palestinian
Age : 21 Years old

Shahad al Khateeb is a computer science student at Qatar University. She loves volunteering at events, being social, and meeting new people. Shahad started volunteering when she was 15 years old hasn’t stop ever since! Her first time volunteering in a sporting event was in December 2020 at a regional Olympics between Qatari schools in Aspire Park. After that, she joined the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, and volunteered in the FIFA Club World Cup 2020, as well as the Qualifiers matches in June, and the FIFA Arab Cup 2021.

Shahad enjoys learning new skills, gaining experiences, expanding her social circle and making new friends.

She wants to become a Youth Advocate because she loves learning new skills, making new friends, meeting new people, contributing to the society and helping others. Shahad is excited to contribute and make a difference through addressing mental health as a challenge in her society.

Ruba Sulaiman
Nationality : Sudanese
Age : 24 Years old

Ruba Sulaiman is a pharmacy student at Qatar University and an advocate for health. She is a social person who enjoys volunteering and participating in different activities. She is also interested in advocating for youth and discussing their issues to enact change.

Ruba believes that sport can make a positive change in the society as it can help develop social skills and address different challenges. Ruba loves watching and playing football and that is what brought her to the Generation Amazing Festival 2019. For her, the festival was an exciting learning experience because it introduced her to the transformative power of football and how it can have positive impact on societies.

By becoming a Youth Advocate, Ruba would love to be a part of the change and overcoming the challenges that youth are currently facing, to shape the future of the next generations.

Noora Al Kuwari
Nationality : Qatari
Age : 19 Years old

Noora Al Kuwari is a senior student at Qatar Academy Doha. She is an active person who likes to engage in programs, activities, sports, and volunteer work.

Noora has a unique relationship with football, she started playing for her school team when she was in middle school between the ages of 10-14. Since then, she now believes that sport has a critical role in her life, allowing her to see how football can unify people. In addition to football, Noora is involved in Model United Nations (MUN) and has been working with THIMUN for 2 years now. She is currently leading the student administration team for the conferences where she serves as the head of administration and works as an executive member of the organization.

Becoming a Youth Advocate will help Noora to build connections with the youth from all around the world. She believes that youth are the next generation that are responsible for our world, therefore they must connect together, help each other and ensure a successful bond and relationship between one another.

Maryam Almaridi
Nationality : Palestinian
Age : 18 Years old

Maryam Al Maridi is a first year civil engineering student at Liverpool John Moores University in Qatar. She is interested in Thai boxing because it helps her build confidence, strength, and self-discipline as well as self-defence techniques.

Maryam has participated in various events, presented a workshop at the Qatar Leadership Conference, organized Model United Nations (MUN) conferences in her school and was part of TEDx@NIA with the photography team. Besides serving her community, Maryam plays ukulele and guitar and practices art.

She would like to become a Youth Advocate because she wishes to create a safe space to teach young teenagers with the necessary life skills for personal development and how to create healthy habits. In particular, she wants to focus on empowering women and how sport can be used to build confidence and self-discipline; as well as to encourage them to take bigger steps in order to achieve goals and support one another.

Mariam Mustafa
Nationality : Pakistani
Age : 24 Years old

Mariam is a final year pharmacy student at Qatar University. She is interested in debating, social media and giving back to the community.

She believes in the power of sport as a common platform between many people, regardless of their age, gender, ethnicity or social class. For Mariam, apart from the positive benefits of playing sport mentally and physically, sport is an agent for change if it is used correctly. For instance, sports events can have a global impact as they can be used as a space to address social issues and raise awareness.

Mariam applied to the Youth Advocates Programme because she wants to work with a team to make a difference. She would like also to learn more about how football can be used to bring people together.

Maryam Ghaly
Nationality : Belgian
Age : 16 Years old

Maryam Ghaly is a student in Sherborne Qatar School. She speaks three languages: Dutch, Arabic and English and has fully memorized the Quran at the age of 12.

Maryam plays football for the Evolution Soccer Academy U18 girls, and has used her love for football to help refugee children. Last summer, she volunteered at a day camp in Belgium delivering football activities for child refugees. She as advocate for women participation in football. She believes that Muslim girls should not be afraid to play sports with a hijab, she wants to set a positive example for other women in sport.

Maryam believes that Generation Amazing can give her the chance to voice her opinion about women and their participation in sport, and wants football to provide a safe space for women and girls to play football.

Amna Alnasr
Nationality : Qatari
Age : 23 Years old

Amna Al Nasr studied business studies in City University College, Qatar. She is an outgoing person who loves to try new things.

Through volunteering, Amna came out of her shell from a shy person, and has built her confidence so she can do different things. She volunteered in the Qatar Scientific Club, Qatar National Book Fair, Darb Al Saai and many other events where she built her social skills, met new people and battled her fears.

For Amna, adopting a healthy life style was the reason behind her becoming interested in sports. She used to be over-weight so she joined a football club and started going to the gym to lose weight and become healthier. By doing so, her mindset changed and started to feel more positive and confident about herself.

Amal Shamoug
Nationality : Sudanese
Age : 21 Years old

Amel Shamog is in her final year studying law in Qatar University. Amel likes to meet new people and experience new activities. Her first experience started with Ajyal Film Festival in her first year of university volunteering as a jury. Since then volunteering became a way to meet new people and expand what she has learnt. Amel enjoys getting to know different people and listening to their stories, as this helps her understand different views and opens her mind to new or unusual perspectives.

As a lawyer, Amel believes that her job is to be the voice for others who cannot speak or defend themselves. Being a Generation Youth Advocate will be a good place for her to advocate for those who need their voice heard and address their issues and challenges.

Abrar Abdelrahman
Nationality : Sudanese
Age : 21 Years old

Abrar Abdelrahman is a pharmacy student in Qatar University. She is a curious and adventurous person who aims to utilise any opportunity for self-improvement.

Abrar is currently representing her college at the college of Pharmacy as the female President at Qatar University Students’ Representatives’ Board. She enjoys getting involved in new experiences and widening her knowledge in different fields including sports.

In 2019, Abrar participated in Generation Amazing Festival where her perspective about football was transformed. She learned that football is not only a competitive sport, but can also be used as a medium to build skills and bring people together. Abrar believes that by becoming a Youth Advocate she will enhance her skills to contribute to social change and gain necessary skills and tools to make a positive impact.

Al Jazi Al Marri
Nationality : Qatari
Age : 23 Years old

Al Jazi Al Marri is an international affairs student in Qatar University. She is interested in politics and education but also an avid football fan. She is interested in participating in community activities and programs that resonate with her interests and objectives. Al Jazi is a member of Qatar University’s debate club and MUN (Model United Nations) club, in which she is able to discuss important world issues and organize structured debates.

Beyond these interests, al Jazi is also interested in sports, with an emphasis on football. She believes football is one of the most influential sports in many ways. Football is a huge part of her life, as she believes it has a significant influence in culture, politics, and development.

Al Jazi would like to become a Youth Advocate as she believes that sports, specifically football, greatly impact our communities and societies.

Aisha Al Attiyah
Nationality : Qatari
Age : 17 Years old

Aisha al Attiya is in her last year of school in Qatar Academy Doha. She hopes to continue her higher education in CMUQ (Carnegie Mellon University Qatar) majoring in Business Administration and then specializing in Sports Administration.

Since she was a child, Aisha has been active in a range of different sports, including basketball, athletics and football. When representing her school, she received recognition for her skills winning in different football tournaments. Aisha is incredibly passionate about football and women’s sport in particular. In addition, she applied her interests in football to her academic studies by conducting a research on the relationship between World War I and its impact on women’s football.

Aisha is also passionate about social change, she organized and volunteered in different activities using sport as a tool. To further enhance her skills, she wants to become a Generation Amazing Youth Advocate. Because of her experiences in sports, she believes that she can contribute with her knowledge to enact change. For her, being a female advocate will show other females that sports isn’t just for the other gender.

Khadija Ghaly
Nationality : Belgian
Age : 16 Years old

Khadija Ghaly is a student in Sherborne Qatar School. She plays football for the Evolution U18 academy and is extremely passionate about sports. She is currently a volunteer at the Evo ‘Little Ballers’ programme. Khadija has great volunteering experience in football for development. She volunteered for a refugee kids’ summer camp, where she was delivering football activities to support refugees. She has previous experience in hosting games and tournaments in Belgium, which included around 50 participants and were very successful and popular amongst the participants.

Like her twin sister Maryam, Khadija speaks Dutch, Arabic and English and has fully memorized the Quran at the age of 12.

Because she is passionate about football, she hopes that through her journey as an advocate, she will inspire others and help to build anti-racist environment for all lovers of the game.

Sayed Naweed Alam
Nationality : Afghani
Age : 24 Years old

Sayed Naweed is a journalist/ translator for ABC news USA. He studies (BMS) at Mumbai University. Sayed is a dreamer who has always dreamt big, and aimed to achieve his goals. Sport for Sayed has a special impact, especially football. For him football taught him how to be a leader, how to become part of a team and to never give up even when losing.

Before applying to the advocacy programme, Sayed had to leave his life behind in Kabul and was evacuated to Doha. When he arrived, Sayed was introduced to Generation Amazing through the activities that took place in the Afghan evacuee compound.

Afflicted with anxiety, and memories of the trauma he faced when leaving Afghanistan, Sayed had no hope for his own future. Sayed wanted to become a Youth Advocate when through Generation Amazing he redefined his goals and started dreaming again.
